17441 Private Albert Baker was born in 1895 in Ardleigh and lived at Elmstead Market.

He served with 1st Battalion Essex Regiment, was posted to Gallipoli 20 July 1915, and was Killed in Action 27 August 1915, aged 20.

He has no known grave. He is named on Helles Memorial, Canakkalie (at tip of Gallipoli Peninsula), Turkey, Panel No. 144-150 or 229-230 and named on a plaque in St Anne and St Laurence Parish Church, Elmstead Market and on the Wivenhoe War Memorial.
