Anne Brummell's Will 1854

This is the last Will and Testament of me Anne Brummell of Wivenhoe in the County of Essex I give and bequeath to my granddaughter Maria Pigott my Bracelets and Ear-rings To my daughter Georgina Anne my Malachite Bracelets and Ear-rings I give and bequeath to my maid Anna Steinau my Wardrobe excepting my lace and voile Shawls and velvet gowns and I give and bequeath the said Anna Steinau the sum of one hundred pounds to be paid to her on the expiration of three months after my decease I give and bequeath to Susan T… my late Servant the sum of fifty pounds To Mary Clapham I bequeath nothing in the confidence that she will be well taken care of by my two daughters And I give and bequeath all the rest and residue and remains of my personal estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever not hereinbefore specifically bequeathed unto my friends Stewart S… of Upper Berkely Street, Portman Square in the County of Middlesex and John Edward Buller of Lincolns Inn Fields in the said County of Middlesex Esquire their executors and administrators and assigns upon trust that they the said Stewart S…  and John Edward Buller and their assigns and the survivors of their/his executors and administrators to and shall pay apply and transfer the same unto such person or persons and for such intents and purposes as my daughter Amelia Duffield the wife of the Reverend Mathew Dawson Duffield shall from time to time by writing her hand direct or appoint and in default of such direction or appointment into her own hands for her own sole and separate use exclusively of her present or any future husband and without being in anyway subject to his debts …  interference or engagements And so that the receipts in writing of the said Amelia Duffield shall alone be a good and sufficient discharge for the same And I hereby appoint the said Stewart S… and John Edward Buller Executors of this my last Will and Testament and do hereby revoke all former Wills

In Witness I the said Anne Brummell the Testatrix have to this my last Will and Testament contained in this and the preceding sheet of paper set my hand this thirteenth day of January in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty Four Anne Brummell

Signed and sealed by the said Anne Brummell the Testatrix as and for her last Will and Testament in the presence of each other all present at the same time have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses Edward Thomas Waters Rector of Wivenhoe Samuel Nathaniel Squire Surgeon Wivenhoe

Proved at London nineteenth of December eighteen fifty seven before the Worshipful Thomas Hutchinson Tristram Doctor of Laws and Surrogate by the Oath of John Edward Buller Esquire one of the Executors to whom … was granted having been first sworn duly to …  power of reserving the like Grant to Stewart S… Esquire the other Executor when he shall apply for the same.
