Wivenhoe Carnival in about 1985

Mike Downes

These are some pictures taken of Wivenhoe Carnival in about 1985 showing the Wivenhoe Mile Fun Run from Tower Road to the Railway Station car park.

Also the start of the Pram Race from the Station Hotel.  The race involved drinking half a pint of beer at each pub on the circuit.  The prize was a case of beer supplied by Mike Ripley who, in those days, worked for the Brewers Society.

  • The 3rd picture shows Sid Cox’s Police Car parked in The Cross bearing the registration B400WHJ. The B registration prefix was used for cars registered 1 Aug 1984 to 31 Jul 1985. Have checked the Car Tax records and the car was registered in September 1984. The tax expired 30 Jun 1993. So these photos can only be from a carnival between 1985 and 1993.
