9291 Private Ernest Baker  was born in 1888, son of Mrs. C. Baker of 40, Crockleford Heath, Elmstead.

He served in the 2nd Battalion King’s Own (Royal Lancaster) Regiment.

He died of his wounds on 21st May 1915, aged 27.

He was buried in the Cologne Southern Cemetery, Grave ref. XVIII.B.27.  He is named on the Elmstead as well as Wivenhoe village memorials.
