25717 Private John Henry Howard was born in 1876 in Queens Road, son of Thomas Bartlett (Master Mariner) & Elizabeth Howard.  Served in 12th Labour Division, Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry.   Died 26 July 1916, aged 40, during the Battle of the Somme.  Buried in Plot 1, Row G, Grave 2, Corbie Communal Cemetery Extension, The Somme, France.  Not named on Wivenhoe War Memorial.  In 1911 Census his parents ran the Railway Hotel, Brightlingsea.
