Jimmy Moore's grocery shop in the High Street.

Jimmy Moore ran this Grocer’s Shop on the ground floor of what was the Grosvenor Hotel. He was also a Church Warden at St Mary’s, across the road from his shop.

  • Thank you so much for this information Tony. I am currently researching my husband’s family tree. He is descended from William, one of Jimmy and Horace’s brothers (there were 5 boys in total). The shop was previously run by their father, James Moore.

  • The shop was run by Jimmy Moore and his brother Horace. known usually as “Horry”. Jimmy Moore was People’s Warden at St. Mary’s for many years.
    He was well known as the person whose “Amen”, at the end of prayers, reverberated around the church
