Paul Brown, Wivenhoe’s former Town Crier and also a former resident of Brightlingsea before moving to Wivenhoe many years ago, gave a very well attended talk in St Mary’s Church on Friday, 21st March 2014 on the history of the railway line between Wivenhoe and Brightlingsea. This line existed from the mid-nineteenth century until its closure in 1964.

He illustrated the talk with a fascinating collection of photographs to show and anecdotes to tell, which were greatly enjoyed by an audience of just over one hundred people. One lady even came from London. And the post-talk arrangements for drinks were first class.

Copies of his book, since republished with new material, were on sale in the Church for the evening. Copies are now available from the Wivenhoe Bookshop.
