WIVENHOE, Essex, March 25, 1772

This is to acquaint the CURIOUS.

THAT there is now to be seen, at the House of Mr. THOMAS CORDER, known by the Sign of the SUN, at Wivenhoe aforesaid,

A Large FOREIGN HOG.

He is reckoned the greatest Progidy of the Kind ever seen in England; he being upwards of twelve Hands high, eight Feet and an half long, (exclusive of his Tail) and is supposed (by Judges) to weigh upwards of thirty-six Scores.

[According to ‘A History of British Livestock Husbandry, 1700-1900′ by Robert Trow-Smith, a score was an eighteenth century measure of weight. Three heaped bushels made a sack, 12 sacks a chaldron, and 21 chaldrons a score. We think that 36 score is approximately equivalent to 51 stones, 714 pounds or 323 kilos.]
