Photo loaned by Ed Lee

In the 1960s, next to the Greyhound P.H., was a butcher’s shop called Calver’s after Horace Calver, who set it up, The photograph shows his cousin, Arthur J. Daniel, who managed the shop and became the proprietor when Horace Calver retired. Ed Lee believes the photograph dates from 1963.

After being a butcher’s shop, it became Beryl’s Woolshop and then Ann’s Bakery until eventually becoming a private house.

Ed Lee is married to Arthur Daniel’s daughter.
