In the name of God Amen Joseph Townesend
of Wivenhoe in the County of Essex beinge weake but
of pfect minde & memory praised bee to God for the same
doe make this my last will & testamt in manner followinge
vizt first I Comend my soule into the hands of
Almighty God trustinge throughe the Merrits of Jesus
Christ my Saviour to Inherrit eternall Life As to my
Estate I give as followeth vizt Item I give to my
sonne John Townesend All that my Smacke & Vessell
with the tackle apparrell & furniture aboute the burthen
of Therty Tonnes Called the Elizabeth, And I alsoe
give unto my said sonne All that Messuage or
tenement with their appurtenances lyeinge in
Wivenhoe in the possession of my wife for ever after
the decease of my now Loveinge Wife Mary to
whome I give the house with their appurtenances duringe
her naturall life shee keepinge the same in good
repaire, And I give to my said Sonne all the Stocke
that belongs to the said Vessell And I make give
unto my Grand Children Jonathan How Joseph
How and Benjamin How the sume of Twenty Pounds
a peece after my wifes decease And if any of them
dye the survivors to have the Legacyes given to them
equally And give unto Thomas Abbott Elizabeth
Abbot
& Robert Abbot my Grand Children to each
of them twenty pounds a Peece after my wifes decease

And if either or any of them dye before her then
The survivors to have the legacy of him or her ?
Dyeing, Item I give to my said sonne John
Townsend
all the mony that is due on on a bond from
Thomas Richardson of Brittelsey in Essex he
Payeinge to Jonathan How after the receipt thereof
The sume of Forty shillings , Item my will & intent
Is that my wife binde to my said son and if
She can spare him twenty pounds to give the sume
Unto him but I leave the sume to her, which sume
I hope hee will take care to make good use of the same
And I give unto my said Wife Mary all my goods
And Chattles rights & Creditt not before bequeathed
My said Wife taking care to pay all my debts
Legacyes & funeral expences & probate of this my Will
And I make my said wife executrix And this
I conclude my last will revoking all former wills In
Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal
This first day of March 1701/2
