Wm Browne's Ropeworks Ledger
Images of his Ledger from the 1830s
Peter Hill
These are pictures from William Browne’s ledger that he used when running his ropeworks business at The Cross which he, and later his son, ran from 1787 through to 1899.
This ledger was generously returned to Wivenhoe in 2017 by Gemma Hooper of Chichester. Gemma’s great grandmother was Emma Rose Browne, daughter of William Browne. The ledger itself has been given to Wivenhoe Town Council for display in the Wivenhoe Chapel museum. For more information about the Chapel Museum click here.
