He served in WW1 in the Essex Regiment and survived.

Ian Valentine

Percy E. Woods was born about 1896 in Wivenhoe, fourth son of six children of Fredrick Woods, Coalworker, and Catherine. In the 1901 Census he is shown as living at Wivenhoe Cross but it is not stated whether he is yet a ‘Scholar’ in the 1901 Census.

He enlisted in the Essex Regiment. The Essex County Standard reported on the 8th December 1917 that he had been ‘wounded’ on 2nd November 1917.

He managed to survive the War.
