In 1979, Essex Countryside magazine carried this photograph of a small dinghy being sailed by Sea Scout Leader Gerry Peterson and Sea Scout Stuart Meyers.   This copy was given to me by Stuart’s mother, Daphne Meyers, to publish on this website.  Doug Meyers, her husband, eventually took over the running of the 3rd Wivenhoe Sea Scouts which met originally on an old concrete barge moored on the bank of the River Colne just a little way down the river from where the Sailing Club is now.  Eventually the Sea Scouts moved to the Congregational Church.

The dinghy was named the James Meachen in memory of the person who was tragically killed in an accident in one the shipyards.

3rd Wivenhoe Sea Scouts were very active in the 70s through to the 1990s when they folded. There must be many people with memories of this group. If you would like to send me any write-ups of those memories, please send them to me at peter@toadhall2.co.uk and I will publish them on this website. Please also send me some pictures too, preferably as jpgs.
