Dan Sherer’s exuberant production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream made excellent use of the “dumbbell” staging format, used in several Wivenhoe Youth Theatre shows, and lending itself to the long, narrow  shape of the hall.

Creatively cut, this was a very physical show, with Kevin West’s Puck popping up from under the stage, wrapping himself almost parasite-like around Oberon (Peter Garden), and appearing like magic all over the place.  The lovers’ fight in the woods was memorable, with Hermia (Hettie Reid) dragged from one end of the hall to the other. Theatre magic!
