The Last Will and Testament of Kezia Hines of Elmstead in the County of Essex made the Twentieth day of August One Thousand Eight Hundred and Eighty

This is the last Will and Testament of me Kezia Hines of Elmstead in the County of Essex Widow  

I appoint my friends Samuel Nathaniel Squire of Wivenhoe in the said County Surgeon and Henry Wittey of Colchester in the same County Gentleman Executors hereof and I give each of them the sum of nineteen pounds and nineteen shillings as some compensation for the trouble they may have in and about the execution of this my Will and direct that the said Samuel Nathaniel Squire shall be allowed and paid for all journeys and loss of time in my Executorship. 

I direct the payment of my just debts and funeral and testamentary expenses as soon as convenient after my death. 

I bequeath to George Sach (who now resides with me) the sum of one hundred pounds Upon trust to apply the same in such parts and proportions at such times and from time to time as he may think expedient in the purchase of coals and give the same coals in such quantities and to such poor inhabitants of the Parish of Wivenhoe as he the said George Sach may in his discretion think fit

And I declare that the receipt of the said George Sach shall be a good discharge to my said Executors for the said sum of one hundred pounds. 

I give to the Trustees for the time being of my late sister Mary Ann Sanford’s Almshouses in Wivenhoe aforesaid whether original or substituted, the sum of Five hundred pounds and direct them to invest the same in their names in the new Three pounds per centum annuities and apply the dividends thereof in such way as they may think fit towards the repair, alterations and improvements of such Almshouses or the maintenance and comfort of the inmates thereof. 

I give to the British and Foreign Bible Society the sum of One Hundred Pounds

To the Asylum for Idiots at Colchester called “Essex Hall” the like sum of One Hundred pounds and to the Shipwrecked Mariners Society the like sum of One hundred pounds

And I direct that the said charitable legacies be paid exclusively out of such parts of my personal estate as may be lawfully apportioned to such purposes. 

And that the receipt of the Treasurers for the time being of the said Societies respectively shall be a sufficient discharge to my Executors for the said charitable legacies respectively given to such Societies

I give to Esther Barrell now residing with me the sum of Fifty pounds. I bequeath the sum of Ten pounds to each of the men who may be in my service upon my farm at the time of my decease

I devise unto John Felgate of Fingringhoe in the said County of Essex Farmer All that messuage or tenement situate in Fingringhoe aforesaid with the garden field and appurtenances thereto belonging part freehold and part copyhold lately occupied therewith by Daniel Abbott Green or his undertenants and which my late husband purchased in or about the year One thousand eight hundred and fifty eight of the Trustees for sale named in the Will of James William Mason deceased

Also I give and devise unto the said John Felgate and his heirs All those nine copyhold cottages with the yard garden and appurtenances thereto belonging situate near the Gas Works in Wivenhoe aforesaid now or lately in the occupation of James Oakley Samuel Collier James Collier William Childs Thomas Forsdyke John Collier Alfred Franks Edward Ham the younger and Edward Kent and to which I was admitted with other property on the twenty fourth day of April One thousand eight hundred and sixty seven, under my late husbands will

I give and devise unto William Bartlett of Wivenhoe aforesaid Fisherman and his heirs All that messuage or tenement situate on the Quay at Wivenhoe aforesaid which formerly belonged to my late Uncle William Sanford and was occupied by Nathaniel Harvey and afterwards William Murrells together with the Quay yards and appurtenances to the same belonging And also my Oyster Pit situate against the Quay in Wivenhoe aforesaid and now occupied by the said William Bartlett

I give the house in East Street in Wivenhoe aforesaid now or lately occupied by [blank] Carrington to William Gunn the younger of Wivenhoe aforesaid and his heirs

I give and devise the house adjoining, now or lately occupied by Samuel Purdy to John Gunn of Wivenhoe aforesaid and his heirs and the adjoining house now or lately occupied by [blank] Bates

I give and devise unto their father William Gunn and his heirs 

I give and devise unto Susan Candler of Churn Wood Schoolmistress and her heirs All that messuage situate on the North side of East Street in Wivenhoe aforesaid and now or lately occupied by [blank] Sadler. 

I give and devise unto the said George Sach and his heirs executors and administrators All the residue of my real and personal estate to and for his own use and benefit. 

I direct that the said Henry Wittey shall notwithstanding his acceptance of the Executorship of this my Will and the trusts thereof be allowed all professional and other charges for his time and trouble which if employed as Solicitor to my Executors not being himself an Executor he would be entitled to make

I devise unto the said Samuel Nathaniel Squire and Henry Wittey their heirs executors and administrators all the estates vested in me as Trustee or Mortagee subject to the trusts and equities affecting the same respectively. 

I hereby revoke all former Wills by me made

Proved at the Ipswich Registry on the 2nd day of October 1885 by the oaths of Samuel Nathaniel Squire Surgeon and Henry Witney Gentleman the Executors to whom administration was granted

The Testatrix Kezia Hines was late of Elmstead in the County of Essex Widow and died on the 21st day of August 1885 at Elmstead aforesaid
