Henry Andrew of St Mary Magdalene, Colchester leaves £3 ‘To my daughter Jane wife of Robert Teele of Wivenhoe mariner’ together with ‘her mother’s silver ring, an old groat, a pillow and a pillowbere’ and a share of ‘the small wearing linen that was my wife’s and as in a coffer’.

John Wollye of Wivenhoe leaves ‘To Agnes my wife my house in Wivenhoe that I dwell in with the yard for her life, also my household stuff and all other things that are mine. To Elizabeth Wollie (sic) my daughter 20s; if she die before her mother or marriage and have no children or come to 20, I will that Margaret Rivers my wife’s daughter shall have the house. I ordain my wife my executrix.’ Witnesses: William Bettes clerk [rector of Wivenhoe], Thomas Locke.

William Frauncis of Wivenhoe husbandman leaves ‘To the poor folk of Wivenhoe 20s to be delivered to the collectors of the poor… Towards the repairing of the church of Wivenhoe 5s. To Margaret my wife my tenement in Alresford called Ford House with the appurtenances for her life, on condition that she make no claim to any of my lands in Wivenhoe. To her my household stuff as she brought with her, her apparel and my first wife’s apparel, 20 marks, and 3 and good and able beast…To Edward Able and his wife of Ardleigh my copyhold in Wivenhoe called Christophers for their lives; after their decease to my godson William Able; …To Edward and his wife a pan and a brass pot; to their five children each 3 sheep, and to Edward an old flockbed. To Ralph Keler and his wife of Lawford my house in Wivenhoe called the Rose and the tenement adjoining it; to his three children each 3 sheep. To my son Robert Fraunces my two houses called Choises and Gowges, my house and ground in Wivenhoe called Hamons and my greater house in Wivenhoe Street that I bought off Richard Buller which sometime was John Sothern’s. To my younger son Thomas my little house by the Chantry House which I bought of Richard Buller. To Thomas after my wife’s decease my tenement in Alresford called Ford House and my house in Wivenhoe called Hubbardes. To him all such household stuff as is mine which is at my house called the Rose. To my eldest son Robert my grove in Elmstead which is freehold. William Bettes of Wivenhoe is one of the five witnesses.
