The Wivenhoe Sand Stone and Gravel Company, started in the early 1920s by William G Loveless, better known to locals as “Toby Loveless”. This picture was taken somewhere around 1960. Permission to show it was given by Mr. Graham Wadley.
The company has been sold and bought several times in its history, including Tilbury Roadstone and Redland Aggregates, and then Lafarge until it became part of the Tarmac Group.

I worked at Wivenhoe Pit from the late 60s until end of the 70s. Alex Stanmore was my boss for a time. I saw lots of changes to transport and plant on the Wivenhoe site and other sites belonging to Tilbury Roadstone.
Thanks for your contribution Ian.
