About Wivenhoe's Pub History
A Trail around Wivenhoe's 24 buildings which have been a pub or a beerhouse
Wivenhoe History Group
The Launch of the Wivenhoe Pub Trail on Saturday 19th September 2020
On Saturday 19th September, the Wivenhoe History Group launched their Pub Trail, a walk around Wivenhoe to see the 24 buildings which are or have been a pub or a beerhouse. Today, there are just 6 pubs remaining.
From that Saturday, you can see the Trail leaflet and read about the history of all these 24 pubs on this website. On these web pages you can see lots of the old photographs that we have been able to find as well as well-researched information about the history of each pub and the landlords of them.
A printed copy of the colour leaflet is available in the Wivenhoe Bookshop (price £1) from Saturday 19th September 2020.
A team from the History Group has been working on this project since early in 2020. This team has comprised: Keith Bunting, Louise Coleman, John Collins, Clive Dykes, John Foster, Terry Garland, Sue Glasspool, Jenny Heaps, Peter Hill, Pat Marsden, Lesley McCabe, Claire O’Toole, Helen Polom, Michael Smither, Eric Strudwick, Gill Strudwick with guest contributions by Helen Douzier, Mary Norris and Nick Sheen.
