WHG - Meeting Thursday 19th Sept 2019 - Tracing Wivenhoe’s Ancestors
With Guest Speaker John Foster of the Wivenhoe History Group
The next meeting of the Wivenhoe History Group is on Thursday 19th September 2019 in the British Legion Hall at 7.30pm.
This meeting should be of especial interest to anyone looking to research their own family history or particularly in knowing more about Wivenhoe family history.
John Foster, a key member of the History Group will show us how he has made the most out of the rich collection of local records: census records, parish records and others. John traces family trees as a hobby and will talk about his methods and results.
As a case example, he will also talk about what he was able to find out about Robert William Hines Bartlett when he was recently sent the photograph that is the subject of the attached poster.
This meeting is open to non-members. There is a charge of £3 per person at the door towards the expenses of the Wivenhoe History Group.
Also you might like to note that there will be another Public Talk in St Mary’s Church, Wivenhoe which will take place on Friday 11th October at 7.30pm. The subject of this talk is: Grey Friars, Colchester’s Forgotten Corner – 2,000 years of History and will be given by popular speaker, Alan Skinner. An imposing building, at the top of East Hill, Grey Friars is today a smart hotel. Alan Skinner’s talk will take us on a journey through its many transformations, examining the lives and activities of the many people who have walked through its doors. Alan was the last Principal of the Grey Friars Adult Community College. This talk is on Friday 11th October at 7.30pm. Tickets are £6 (including wine or a soft drink).
