WHG - Meeting Thursday 19th Sept 2019 - Tracing Wivenhoe’s Ancestors

 

This was a very well-attended meeting of the Wivenhoe History Group on Thursday 19^th September 2019 in the British Legion Hall at 7.30pm.

John Foster, a key member of the History Group, showed us how he has made the most out of the rich collection of local records: census records, parish records and others in database and software which he has created himself.  He does this all for a hobby. He talked about his methods and showed the results of this software on a screen. It was fascinating the way the computer was able to construct family trees.

As a case example, he talked about what he was able to find out about Robert William Hines Bartlett, a person who lived on the Quay, for Rachel a descendant of Robert Bartlett who had hoped to join us from London for the meeting but was unfortunately unable to get away from London that day.
