The 150th celebrations of the Great Eastern Railway reaching Wivenhoe in 1863. Wivenhoe people turned out in costume led by the Town Mayor, Cllr Penny Kraft to mark this auspicious occasion. One person even dressed up as Queen Victoria.
The local management of Network Railways joined in the fun too. A plaque was unveiled in the Booking Hall.

Wivenhoe railway memory—-Browsing through the Clacton society I saw a Link to the Wivenhoe local history society. I wondered if you were aware of the short film by Edward Thorp recording the period of time before the closure of the Brightlingsea Branch line. The opening shot of the film features the wivenhoe permanent Way Gang ( Les Sparrow; George Brown; Ossie Green and Basil Booth the youngster with the bobble hat) https://player.bfi.org.uk/free/film/watch-river-ride-1963-online
