Carolin, (John Robert) Sinclair 1856-1922
Sinclair Carolin was Rector of Wivenhoe 1890 to 1922, and was regarded as slightly unusual. Until shortly before his death in 1922 he rode a motorbike, and once came into the church covered in blood having crashed his bike. His wife was disabled and was pushed around in a wheelchair by ‘a grumpy old man called Joe Brown’ (quoted from Dick Barton’s book on Wivenhoe).
