People gathered for the presentation of cheques and the Annual Town Meeting that following at which the Annual Report and Accounts of the Town Council were presented.

Prior to the Town Council holding its Annual Town Meeting in the William Loveless Hall on Wednesday, 10th May, Town Mayor, Cllr Tom Roberts presented cheques to many organisations from the Mayor’s Charity Fund.

During his year as Town Mayor, he and his partner Mayoress Dilly Meyer, had led fund-raising efforts resulting in a record £7,600 being raised. Tom expressed his thanks to the Mayor’s Charity fund-raising team and to everyone else who had been involved with helping and supporting the Mayor’s Charity throughout the year.

Alzheimer’s Society Colchester branch: £1,200

Nottage Maritime Institute – towards cost of new security equipment and extra library shelving: £1,100.

Wivenhoe Ferry Trust – towards a new engine:  £300

Wivenhoe & District Sporting Facilities Trust – towards car park and fencing: £500

Wivenhoe Jubilee Youth Trust:   £300

Wivenhoe Youth Theatre:    £100

The Munty Bus:  £400

SCOPE (cheque to be presented via Pam Glover):  £150

Wivenhoe Scout & Guide Association – towards tents:   £300

Wivenhoe Community Safety & Neighbourhood Watch:  £50

St Mary’s Church – in recognition of generous help and use of the church, particularly for the Civic Service:     £100

Wivenhoe News c/o FOSM  – a great little publication written, edited and designed entirely by volunteers. It operates on a very tight shoestring budget:  £100

Wivenhoe Junior Badminton Club:  £100

Royal British Legion (Wivenhoe Branch) – towards refurbishment of its Hall:   £200

Broomgrove Junior School – towards maintenance costs of school pool:   £100

Wivenhoe May Fair Committee – in recognition of the fact that additional expenses this year to comply with new licensing legislation will curtail the Fair’s usual support of charities:  £100

Isabel Evans – Isabel has made a huge contribution to our community, particularly through her work with the Wivenhoe Youth Theatre, and is currently struggling to put herself through drama school without the benefit of a grant or student loan:  £200

Avenue Play Group:   £50

Wivenhoe Play Group:   £50

St Mary’s Mother & Toddler Group:   £50

Wivenhoe Over-60s Club:   £50

 and during the year, Tom and Dilly gave out:

Town & Gown bursaries: £1,000 (2 x £500)

Mary Barron Suite at Essex County Hospital:  £600
