A rural scene in summer near Wivenhoe in Essex.  This print shows cattle grazing and drinking from a pond.  In the background there is a cottage.  This is one of four seasonal views of Essex and the Isle of Wight by William Redmore Bigg (1755-1828).  Bigg also drew a number of cottage scenes in Essex.  In 1788 he entered the RA schools in London, and throughout his career, he exhibited here almost annually.  He is well known for painting rustic scenes.
