10255 Private Charles James Pitt was born in 1894, the son of Arthur John &  Emma Pitt, of 4, Colne Terrace, Park Road, Wivenhoe.  He Enlisted in 1913 (CWGC), and served in the 2nd Bn and/or 5th Bn Essex Regiment.   Went to France on 23 February 1915, and Killed in Action in Flanders on 2 May 1915, aged 21.  Named on Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial Panel 39, and on Wivenhoe War Memorial.
