In the name of God Amen
I John Tyler of Wivenhoe in the County of Essex Mariner
being in good health of body and of sound and perfect mind
and memory (praised be God for the same) Doe make and
declare this my last Will and Testament this Fifteenth Day
of March Anno Domini 1702/3 And in the Second yeare of
the Reigne of our Souveraigne Lady Queen Ann over England &c
in manner following First I commend my Soule unto Almighty
God my Maker trusting by the only Meritts of Jesus Christ
my Redeemer to be made Partaker of a better life after this
mortall Life ended And my Body I committ to the Earth to be
decently buried by my Executors hereafter named. And As for
such worldly Estate as God hath been pleased to bless me with
I give devise and bequeath the same as followeth Imprimis I
give and bequeath unto my Son William Mm Sixteenth part
of the Pink or vessel called the Essex whereof John Barrington
is present Master. Item I give and bequeath unto my Son John
all and singular my Messuages Lands Tenements Yards Gardens
Warehouses and Wharfes with the Appurtenances scituate lying
and being in Wivenhoe aforesaid to hold unto him his heires
and Assigns forever. Item I give unto my Daughter Susann
the Summe of three hundred and fifty pounds of lawfull
money of England to be paid unto her at the Age of one and
twenty yeares or day of Marriage which shall first happen
after my Decease. And my will is that the Interest thereof
shall be paid her yearly by my Executors untill She shall
attain the said Age And time aforesaid. Item I give unto the
poore of the Parish of Wivenhoe the summe of five pounds
of like money to be paid by my Executors within three months
after my decease. Item I give unto my Sister Meriam the
summe of fifty pounds of like money to be paid unto her by my
Executors within Twelve months after my decease. Item Whereas
my late Kinsman John Studd deceased was indebted to me
upon Bond the summe of Twenty pounds I hereby give the same
Summe unto his two Sons John and Thomas Studd equally
betweene them to be divided as they shall respectively attaine
the age of One and twenty yeares the interests whereof in the
meane time I will their Mother shall have and enjoy soe long
as she continues on a Widowe or longer at the Discretion of my
Executors. And if either of them the said Children die before
their said age Then I give the parte of the Deceased to the
Survivour of them item. Item after payment of my Debts Legacies
and funerall Expenses all the Rest and Residue of my Goods
chattels and estate whatsoever and wheresoever of what
nature kind or quality soever I give and bequeath unto my
foure Children William John Margarett and Susann equally
to be divided between them Provided allways and my mind
and will is That in case my said son John shall dye and depart
this life and my said Son William shall enjoy my aforesaid
Messuages Tenements Lands and premises in Wivenhoe
aforesaid hereby given to my said Son John Then and in
such case I give and bequeath all my said Residue and
Remainder of my Estate Goods Chattels in England only
unto my said two Daughters Margarett and Susann equally
to be divided betweene them. And all such Goods Adventures
Merchandizes Effects Wages Interests or Profitts that shall
be the Returnes of my present intended voyage to the East India
In the Ship Mariana of London whereof I am Commander
And all my parte and share of the said Ship and Cargoe
I give unto my said son William and my said two Daughters
equally to be divided between them. And I doe hereby constitute
and appoint my loving Friends Benjamin Burgis of Colchester
Ironmonger and John Beale of Colchester Mariner and my
Son in Law John Quilter of London Mariner joint Executors of
this my Will. And I doe give unto Each of them the summe of
Ten pounds for their trouble in the Execution of this my Will
And revoking all former Wills by me heretofore made I do
make and declare this only for my true and last Will and
Testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto sett my
