484. John THORPE of Wivenhoe, Labourer, 1773. D/ACW 33/3/9

In the name of God Amen, I John Thorpe of Wivenhoe in the County of
Essex Labourer, Being of sound mind memory and understanding Do therefor make this my
last Will and testament (in Writing) as follows.  First and principally I commend my soul
into the hands of almighty God, and my Body to the Earth, And for my Temporal Estates that I
shall be possessed at my Decease I give and Bequeath in manner Following (that is to say)
First I will and order that my Copyhold messuages or Tenements on Wivenhoe Heath which I lately
Purchased of Robert Turner, be sold for the best price that can be got for it, and the monies arising by
such sale I give and Bequeath to my Loving mother Elizabeth Thorpe;  I also give and bequeath
to my well beloved friend Mary Mills of Wivenhoe aforesaid Ten Sheep which are now on Wivenhoe
Heath and Five pounds in Cash which I hereby order her to Receive of the Stewards of the Benefit
Club at Wivenhoe to which I belong and which I have a Right to dispose of by virtue of the said Club
Articles;  And the Rest and Residue of Ready Monies, Debts, Dues, and Demands whatsoever and
wheresoever , Wearing Apparel and other Effects I give and Bequeath to my Brother in Law Francis
Hyde of Sutton in the Isle of Ely in the County of Cambridge and I do hereby appoint the said
Francis Hyde Full and Sole Executor of this my Will in Trust for the purposes above
mentioned, Hereby revoking and setting aside all former Wills by me made, declaring this only
to be my last will and Testament, In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal
this Twenty Fifth Day of February in the year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord
George the Third by the Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of
the Faith &c, and in the year of our Lord One thousand Seven hundred and Seventy three

as and for his Last will & Testament
in the presence of us , and we subscribed
our names as witnesses by his desire

This Will of John Thorpe late of the Parish of Wivenhoe in the County of essex deceased
was proved on the Thirteenth day of March in the year of our Lord one Thousand Seven
Hundred and Seventy three Before the Reverend Nataniel Forster clerk Surrogate &c
by the oath of Francis Hyde the Sole Executor to whom Administration of all and Singular
the Goods Chattels and Credits of the said deceased was granted and committed on the Twenty
Fifth day of the Same Month he being first sworn duly to Administer
