In the name of God amen
I William Mason of Wivenhoe in the County of Essex
Plumber and Glazier being weak in body but of sound
And disposing mind memory and understanding thanks
be given to Almighty God for the same Do make
this my last Will and Testament in Manner following
that is to say First I Give and devise unto my loving
Wife Mary Mason and to my brother John Mason
and my Brother in Law George Summersum all
that my Freehold Messuage or Tenement with the
Houses Outhouses Buildings Yards Gardens Hereditaments
and Appurtenances thereto belonging situate in
Wivenhoe aforesaid and called or known by the name
of Heartshorne or by whatever other Name or names
the said is or hath been called or known late in
the tenure or Occupation of Edward Lugar or his
Assigns and now unoccupied to hold the same messuage
or Tenement Hereditaments and premises with the
Appurtenances unto the said Mary Mason John Mason
and George Summersumn their heirs and assigns for
ever in trust that they the said Mary Mason John
Mason and George Summersum or the survivors
or survivor of them or the heirs of such survivor
do and shall as soon as conveniently may be after
my decease sell and dispose of the same premises to
the best purchaser or purchasers that can be got for
the same Also I do hereby Will Direct and appoint
that the said Mary Mason John Mason and
George Summersum or the Survivors or Survivor of
them or the heirs of such Survivor do and shall

convenient speed after my decease sell and dispose of
all those my two copyhold Messuages or Tenements
called by the name of Publetts situate in Wivenhoe Street
with a stable and an Orchard called a Plumbary
together with the two Gardens and one Orchard
thereto belonging containing one Acre more or less
and holden of the Manor of Wivenhoe by Copy of
Court Roll (and which said Copyhold premises I have
duly surrendered to the use of this my Will ) to the
best purchaser or purchasers that can be got for the
same and I do hereby further Will and direct that  
the Receipt or Receipts of the said Mary Mason
John Mason and George Summersum or the Survivors
or Survivor of them or the Heirs of such Survivor
shall be a good and sufficient discharge and discharges
to such purchaser or purchasers so for so much of the
purchase Money as shall be comprized in such receipt
or receipts and that after payment of the purchase
Money to the said Trustees or the Survivors or
Survivor of them or the Heirs of such Survivor
such purchaser or purchasers shall not be answerable
or accountable for any loss Misapplication or
Nonapplication thereof or of any part thereof but shall
be absolutely discharged therefrom and the Monies
arising by the Sales of my said Estates I dispose of in
the following manner that is to say I Give and
bequeath One hundred pounds part thereof unto
my sister Elizabeth the Wife of John Goldsmith One
Hundred  pounds other part thereof unto my two Nieces
Susannah and Priscilla Butcher to be equally divided
between them and the remaining part thereof (after
Deducting all such necessary charges and Expenses as
they my said Trustees or the Survivors or Survivor of
them or the Heirs of such Survivor shall be put
into and about such sales I give and bequeath
unto my brother James Mason to and for his own use
and benefit and my Will and desire further is that if
my said Sister Elizabeth Goldsmith or my said Nieces
Susannah and Priscilla Butcher or either of them or
my said brother James Mason shall happen to die
before my said Estates shall be Sold and disposed of
as aforesaid then and in such Case I Give and
bequeath the Legacy or Legacies of such of them as
shall so happen to die under his her or their respective
Legal Representative or representatives in due Course of
Administration to be paid as soon as my said
Estates shall be sold and disposed of as aforesaid
Also I give and bequeath unto my said Wife the
sum of One hundred pounds of lawful Money of 
Great Britain to be paid her out of my personal
estate and effects within Six Months next after my
decease and which I desire may be taken out of
my Moneys which shall be in the public Funds at
my decease Also I Give them bequeath unto my
said Wife the dividends Interest and proceeds that
shall arise from the time of my death from
reminder of my monies which shall be out at
interest at the time of my decease whether the same
shall be in the Public Funds or on real Security or
Securities for and during the term of her natural life
Also I Give and bequeath unto my said wife the
use of all my Plate and China for and during the
term of her natural life and from and immediately
after her decease I direct the same or such part
thereof as shall then be whole and unbroken to be
Sold by the Survivors or Survivor of my Executors
hereinafter named or the Executors or Administrators
of such Survivor and the Money thereby arising to
be divided into four equal parts or shares one
fourth part whereof I Give and bequeath unto my
said brother John Mason one other fourth part
Thereof I Give to my said brother James Mason
One other fourth part thereof I Give to my said
Sister Elizabeth Goldsmith and the remaining fourth
part thereof I Give to my said Nieces Susannah
and Priscilla Butcher and in case any or either of
the said last mentioned Legatees shall happen to dye
before my said Wife then and in such Case I Give
and bequeath the part and share or parts and
shares arising from the sale of my said plate
and China immediately after the death of my said
Wife unto the legal representative or representatives
of such of them as shall so happen to die Also I
Give and bequeath unto my Cousin William Mason
of Colchester in the said County of Essex Gentlemen
the sum of fifty pounds of lawful Money of Great
Britain which I hereby order and direct shall be
paid him immediately after the death of my said
Wife out of the monies that shall be out at
Interest at the time of my decease end of which
my said Wife is to leave the Dividends Interest
And proceed as aforesaid and if it shall happen
that my said Cousin William Mason should die
before his said Legacy shall become due then I
Give and bequeath the same unto his legal
representative or representatives to be paid at the
time the same is hereinbefore directed to be paid
my said Cousin if living Also I Give and bequeath
unto my Nephew and Niece John Mason and Jane
Mason son and daughter of my said Brother
John Mason the residue and remainder of all such
monies as shall be out at interest in the public
Funds or on Real Security at the time of my death
as aforesaid to be equally divided between them
immediately after my said Wifes decease And in
case my said Nephew or Niece shall happen to
Die in the life time of my said Wife then I Give
and bequeath the part and share of him or her
who shall so happen to die of and in the Residue of
such Monies unto the legal representative or
representatives of such of them as shall so happen
to die to be paid at the death of my said Wife
as aforesaid Also I Give and bequeath unto my
said brother James Mason all my Working Tools
and utensils belonging to my business to be delivered
to him as soon as conveniently may be after my
decease and after payment of my just Debts Funeral
Expenses and the charges of proving and attending the
Execution of this my Will and other incident Expences
I Give and bequeath all the rest residue and
reminder of my Household Goods and Furniture Stock
in Trade Book Debts ready Money Monies due on
Notes and all other my personal Estate and Effects
of what nature or kind soever and wheresoever (not
hereinbefore disposed of unto my said Wife to and
for her own use and disposal And Lastly I do
hereby make nominate constitute and appoint my
said Wife Mary Mason together with my said
Brother John Mason and my said Brother in Law
George Summersum Executrix and Executors of this
my will and hereby revoking and making void
all former and other Will and Wills by me at any
time heretofore made I publish and declare this to
be my last Will and Testament in Witness whereof
I the said William Mason the Testator to this my
last Will and testament contained in three sheets of
paper have to each sheet thereof set my hand
and Seal this twenty sixth day of June in the year
of our Lord One thousand Sseven hundred and eighty
four William Mason Signed Sealed Published
and declared by the said Testator William Mason
as and for his last Will and Testament in the
presence of us who in his presence and at his request
Have hereunto Subscribed our Names as Witnesses

This Will was proved at London the
twelth day of April in the Year of our Lord One
thousand seven hundred and eighty six before the
Right Worshipful Peter Calvert Doctor of Laws
Master Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative
Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the Oaths
of Mary Mason Widow the Relict John Mason
the Brother of the deceased and George Summersum
the Executors named in the said Will to whom
Administration was granted of all and singular the
Goods Chattels and Credits of the said deceased they
having been first sworn my Commission duly to
Administer
