474. Elizabeth HOWES of Wivenhoe, Widow, 1767. D/ACW 32/3/20

In the name of God, Amen.  I Elizabeth Howes Widow of
the parish of Wivenhoe in the Essex being mindfull of the
Frailty and mortality of human nature and that it is appointed for
all once to die but considering the uncertainty of the time thereof and
being very sick and weak in Body but of perfect mind memory and
understanding Do therefore make and ordain this my Last will and
Testament in manner and form following (that is to say) First and
Principally I commit my soul to almighty God who gave it and my
Body to the Earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executor here
after named Except six Hats which I desire may be given to six men to carry my
corpse to the ground value ten shillings each and as to such other worldly
Goods as I now have or shall be possessed of at my death I give and bequeath
in manner following (that is to say) First I give and bequeath to my loving
Niece Elizabeth Hopwood my Featherbed Bedstead with striped hangings

in the manner it now stands with two Feather beds two bolsters two pillows two
Blankets, one white quilt and one Flower’d Quilt two Pair of Sheets together
with all and singular my wearing Linen and Apparel whatsoever both made and
unmade and also my pair of Drawers standing in the same room with the said bed
and also one dozen of napkins and a piece of black velvet to make a cloak
Item I give to the said Elizabeth Hopwood all such rent as shall be due to me
at my decease for the house where Thomas Jaggard now lives and the two gold
rings which I usually wear and as to such other Goods as I shall be possessed
of at my decease I give and bequeath to my son John Howes whom I constitute
and appoint full abd sole Executor to this my last will and Testament, setting
aside and making void all former wills by me made declaring this to be my
Last will and Testament In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand
and seal this 19^th day of July in the year of our lord one thousand seven
hundred and sixty and in the thirty fourth year of the reign of our sovereign
Lord king George the second

July 17 1767 I John Howes do make Oath that
this paper contains the last Will and Testament of
Elizabeth Howes that I am the Executor within
mentioned that I will faithfully execute this Will
by paing first the debts and then the Legacies so
far as the Estate will go and the Law will charge
me and that I will bring in a true Inventory and
pass a just account of my Executorship when
the Law requires me

This Will was Proved on the Fourteenth day of July in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred
and Sixty Seven Before the Reverend Charles Lind Doctor in Divinity Surrogate &c by the oath of
John Howes Son of the deceased and Sole Executor to whom Administration of all and Singular
the Goods Chattels and Credits of the said deceased was granted and committed on the Twenty Fourth
day of the said month of July he being first sworn duly to Administer.
