In the name of God, Amen.  I Joseph Dowsett of the parish
of Wivenhoe in the County of Essex, Publican, being very sick and weak
in Body, but of Perfect Mind and Memory, thanks be given unto
God;  calling unto Mind the Mortality of my Body and knowing that
it is appointed for all Men once to die, do make and ordain this my
last Will and Testament:  That is to say principally and first of all,
I recommend my soul into the Hand of Almighty God that gave it,
and my body I recommend to the Earth, nothing doubting but at the
general Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty Power
of God.  And as touching such worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God
to bless me in this life, I give, devise, and dispose of the same in the following
Manner and form.
First I give and bequeath to Maria my beloved Wife whom I likewise constitute
make, and ordain the sole Executrix of this my last will and Testament
all lawful money of England due to me as debts, with the amount due from
my benefit Club, together with all my Household goods, Linen, Plate Silver Watch,
and moveable effects for the term of her Natural Life,
And my wish is that at her death all such of the above named goods shall
be given to, and belong to her Daughter Hephizabeth Catt, Wife of Samuel Catt,
Blacksmith of Wivenhoe Cross, in the aforesaid County of Essex, by her freely
to be possessed and enjoyed.
And I do hereby utterly disallow, revoke, and disannul all and every other
former testaments, Wills, Legacies, Bequests, and Executors by me in any ways
before named, willed and bequeath, ratifying and confirming this, and no other
to be my last Will and Testament.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 1st Day of
November, in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and
Fifty three.
