The Last Will and testament of Charles William
Bacon Master Mariner of Wivenhoe in the County
of Essex Now bound on A voyage from London
To the port of Melbourne in South Australia My
Soul I commend To the Lord God who hath
Promised to save all who repent and believe in
Jesus Christ his son who Died to save sinners
My Body I also Commit to his care Trusting in him
to preserve me and bring me home in safety but if
I never be Permitted to Return to my Native Land
But should Die during the voyage after my decease
My Household Goods I bequeath to my beloved wife
Mary Ann Bacon and all the Money in the possession
of my wife I leave for her use
and the shares payed  in the Mutual Fund At Colchester
I Bequeath to her and the Insurance on my Clothes and Effects
In the Whitty Club I bequeath to my wife and the
Insurance affected in London for 120 pounds on my
Nautical Instruments and Goods I bequeath to be paid
To my Dear Wife And the 100 pounds I have insured At
No 4 Moorgate Street London on my life
I bequeath 80 pounds of it to my Dear Wife and
20 pounds to my Dear parents Mary and Edward Bacon
and also wish my wife to pay all my Lawfull
debts and the remainder At her Disposal But I trust
In that God who have Hitherto Preserved me that he will
Preserve me from all Dangers and bring me home in
Safety and in peace to my Native Land and to my
dear wife and friends again in his own due time

a Commission to Mary Ann Bacon the lawful
Wd & Relict & principal Legatee named in the
within written Will to administer the Goods
Chattels and Credits of the Deceased with his
Will annexed according to the tenor and
effect thereof she being first sworn duly to
administer (no Executor or Executrix being
appointed in the said Will

The twelfth day of January 1856
Appeared personally Mary Ann Bacon and
alleged that Charles William Bacon late of
Wivenhoe in the county of Essex Master Mariner departed
this life on or about the 15^th day of May
1855 having first made his last Will and Testament
in writing now hereunto annexed but did not therein
appoint any Executor or Executrix thereof That she the
Appearer is the lawful Widow and relict and Principal
Legatee named in the Will of the said Deceased
wherefore she prayed Letters of Administration (with
the Will annexed) of the Goods Chattels and Credits of
the said Deceased to be granted to her on giving security
for the same

sworn to the truth of the premises and
also faithfully to administer according
to the tenor and effect of the said Will
and that the whole of the Goods Chattels
and Credits of the Deceased are under
the value of One hundred pounds

Know all Men by these presents that We, Mary Ann Bacon of Wivenhoe
in the county of Essex Widow William Murrells
of the same place Master Mariner and Frederick
Murrells of the same place Master Mariner
are held and firmly bound unto the Worshipful John Haggard
Official of the Archdeaconry of Colchester
in the sum of
Two hundred Pounds
of good and lawful money of Great Britain, to be paid unto the said
Official or to his certain Attorney,
his Executors, Administrators, or Assigns, to which payment, well and truly to be
made, we oblige ourselves, and each and every of us, by herself and themselves
for the whole, our, and each and every of our Heirs, Executors,
and Administrators, firmly by these presents, sealed with our Seals, dated the
twelfth day of January in the
nineteenth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lady Victoria, by the grace of God,
of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland Queen, Defender of the
Faith, &c., and in the year of our Lord, One thousand eight hundred and fifty six

The Condition of this Obligation is such that if the above bounden Mary Arm
Bacon the Widow and relict and a principal Legatee
named in the last Will and Testament of Charles William Bacon late of
Wivenhoe in the county aforesaid Master Mariner, deceased, and
Administratix (with the said Will annexed) of the Goods, Chattels, and Credits of the said
deceased, do make or cause to be made a true and perfect Inventory of all and singular the Goods,
Chattels, and Credit of the said deceased, which have, or shall come to her hands, possession, or
knowledge, and the same do exhibit into the Registry of the Archdeaconry Court of
Colchester on or before the last
day of April next ensuing, and the same Goods, Chattels, and Credits do
well and truly administer, (that is to say) do pay the debts which the deceased did owe, at the time
of his death, and then the Legacies, if any, contained in the said Will, so far as the said Goods,
Chattels, and Credits will thereto extend, and the law require. And further, do make or cause to
be made a true and just Account of her Administration, when she shall be lawfully thereunto
required. And all the rest and residue of the said Goods, Chattels, and Credit’s which shall be
found remain[i]ng upon her Account, and not otherwise disposed of in the said Will, and allowed
of by the Judge of the said Court, for the time being, shall distribute and dispose of in such manner
and form as shall be limited by the discretion of the said Judge, pursuant to the Act of Parliament
in that behalf made. And lastly, do at all times hereafter, clearly acquit, discharge, and save
harmless the before named Official.and all Officers of the said Court, against
all persons having, or pretending to have, any right, title, or interest unto the Goods, Chattels, and
Credits of the said deceased. Then this Obligation to be void and of none effect, or else to remain
in full force and virtue.

Appeared personally Frederick Murrells of
Wivenhoe in the County of Essex Mariner and
made oath that he is one of the attesting
Witnesses to the will of Charles William Bacon
hereunto annexed and that the said Testator
Charles William Bacon signed the said Will
on the day it bears date in the presence of
this Deponent and Thomas George Plydell
all being present at the time of such signing
and that he this deponent and the said Thomas
George Plydell signed the said Will as such
Witneses in the presence of the said Testator
and of each other. And this Deponent further
saith that he has this day inspected the
said will of the said Charles William Bacon
and the same appears to be in every respect
in the same condition as when he so attested
the execution thereof
