358. Thomas ABBOTT of Wivenhoe, Glazier, 1721.  D/ACW 25/209

In the Name of God Amen I Thomas Abbott of Wivenhoe in the County of Essex Glazier being
of sound & disposeing mind memory & understanding do make this my Last Will & testamt in manner following
And Fist my will is that all my just debts shall be fully paid & satisfyed & after payment of my said debts & the
Charges of my Funerall I dispose of such worldly estate as it hath pleased God to bestow upon me in manner
Following And First my will is that the sume of Seaventy pounds a peice Given to my daughter Elizabeth Abbott
and to my Sonn Robert Abbott by my Late Father in Law Joseph Townsend & my late mother in Law Mary
Townsend which moneyes of theirs I have in my hands shall be paid to them by my Exers herein after
named according to the true intent & meaning of their severall last Wills & Testaments And further that the
Household goods & plate given to my said Daughter Elizabeth Abbott by the said Mary Townsends Will which
are now also in my possession be delivered to my said Daughter Item I give & bequeath to my Leveing wife
Mary Abbott All That Coppyhold messuage or tenement wherein I now dwell Situate in Wivenhoe aforesaid
to hold to her & her assignes for & dureing the terme of her naturall life And after her decease I give the
same to my Sonn Thomas Abbott & his heires in case hee shall liv e to attayne his age of one & twenty years
but in case hee dye before hee shall attayne his said age then I give the same tenemnt after my said wifes
decease to my daughter Elizabeth Abbott & her heires & as[ign]s forerer Item I give & bequeath to my daughter
Elizabeth Abbott All That tenement with the Apprtences Situate in Wakes Colne in the County of Essex and now
in the Occupation of Joseph Newcomb To hold to her & her heires in case the shall live to attayne her age

of one & twenty yeares but in case she dye before she shall attayne her said age leaveing no child or children
of her body Lawfully begotten then I give the same to my Sonn Robert Abbott & to his heires But in case hee
dye without children before hee shall attayne his age of one & twenty yeares Then I give the same tenemnt in
Wakes Colne to my Sonn Thomas Abbott & his Heires And in case all my said thildren dye before they attayne
their respective ages of one & twenty yeares Leaveing no issue of their bodyes Lawfally begotten then I give the
same to my owne right heires forever Item & give & bequenth to my said Loveing wife Mary Abbott all
the Goods Household stuffe plate & Linnen wsoever which were hers before her intermarryage to be
disposed of by her at her will and pleasure And I also give to her the sume of Fifty pounds of Lawfull
British money Item & give to my bonn Thomas Abbott the sume of Fifty pounds to be paid him at
his age of One & twenty yeares but in case he dyes before he shall atague his said age then I
give the same to my bsnn Robert Abbott his Exert & Admnt Item dgive & bequealth to my said sonn
Thomas Abbott one silver Spoon marke TAE 1706 and two Silver Casters. Item I give to my sonn Robert
Abbott the sume of Fifty pounds of Lawfull British money to be paid him at his age of one and
twenty yeares but in case hee dyes before he shall attagne the said age then & give the same to my
said daughter Elizabeth Abbott And in case both dye before they shall attayne their said ages of one
& twenty yeares Then I give the same to my Sonn Thomas Abbott his execrs & Addmts to be paid
him at his age of one & twenty yeares Item & give to my said Sonn Robert Abbott my great Silver
Tankard marked and two spoons marked ET and one spoon Markes MT RA1702 Item give &
bequeath to my said daughter Elizabeth Abbott the sume of Fifty pounds of like Lawfull British money
to be paid to her at her age of one & twenty yeares But in case she dyes before the shall attayne her
said age leaveing no child or children of her body Lawfully begotten then I give the same to my
said Sonn Robert Abbott to be paid to him at his age of one & twenty yeares But in case both of them
dye before they shall have attayned their respoctive ages of one a twenty yeares Then I give the same to
my said sonn Thomas Abbott to be paid him at his age of one & twenty yeares Item I give to my said
daughter Elizabeth Abbott One silver Cupp marked ET One Spoon marked MTTA One Little spoon
marked EA and one other Spoon marked MT TA 1698 Item my mind & will is that my said wife Mary
Abbott shall receive the rents of the Severall Estates given to my said children and also the interest of
their severall legacyes untill such time as the same shall to them respectively become due the maintayning
bringing them up & giveing them learning according to their Condicons, And I further give to my said
wife Mary Abbott all my parte & interest in the Hoy whereof Thomas Crosse is master for her life and after
her decease I give the same to my Sonn Thomas Abbott. Item I give to my said daughter Elizabeth Abbott
my Sixteenth parte & all my interest in the Vessell whereof Henry Collins is master And I give my
sixteenth parte and all my interest in the Vessell whereof Joseph Ruther is master to my Sonn Robert
Abbott but in case either of them my said daughter Elizabeth Abbott or my sonn Robert Abbott depart this
life before they shall attayne their ages of one a twenty yeares then I give their parte of the said shipping
to the Survivor of them And all the rest residue & remainder of my personall Estate not herein before
disposed of after the payment of my debts Legacyes & funerall charges I give & bequeath to my said
three children Elizabeth Abbott Robert Abbott & Thomas Abbott to be equally divided between them
share & share a like & to be paid them at their ages of one & twenty yeares but if either or any
of them dye before hee she or they shall have attayned their severall ages of one & twenty

Years then I give the pte of him her or them so dying to the survivors or Survivor of them
And if any difference or contest shall happen to arrise between My Executors herein after named
or betweene my Exer & my said Legaters or any of them for & in respect of any matter or
thing contayned in this my will, my will & mind is that they do apply themselves to my superrisor
herein after named to settle all such differences whose determination therein I will shall be Finall
and the all partyes acquiesse in the same And I do make my said wife Mary Abbott and my said
Daughter Elizabeth Abbott Executors of this my will And I do appoint my Friend John Eldred
of Stanway Gent to be supervisor hereof desireing him to wise advise & assist my Exertrs in the
execution of this my will and I give to the said John Eldred two Guineas and I give to my said
three thildren two Jacobus peices of Gold to each of them and also one gold Ring to each of them
In Wittnesse whereof I have to this my last will & testament written on three sheets of paper
sett my hand & seale to each sheet thereof and my seale to the string that Joynes the said paper
together this seaventeenth day of October in the eleaventh yeare of the Reigne of our
Sovereigne Lady Qreen Anne and in the yeare of our Lord One Thousand seaven hundred
and twelve
