In the Name of God Amen I Elizabeth Butler of Wivenhoe in the
County of Essex Spinster being infirm of Body but of Sound Mind and Memory Do make this
My Will in Manner following To wit My Soul I Commit to God who gave it Trusting through
The Merrits of Jesus Christ my Saviour for free pardon of all my sins and my Body to the Earth to be
buried at the discretion of my ex[ecu]tor hereinafter named in the Church of Wivenhoe aforesaid near
where the late Mr Robert Kempton dec[eas]ed lyes buried and as to my Wordly Estate I dispose thereof as
followeth That is to say First I Give & bequeath unto my sister Sarah the wife of John Milbank
of Colchester in the Said County Husbandman the Sum of one hundred pounds to be paid her by my
Ex[ecu]tor hereinafter named at and after the rate of Eight pounds per annum by four equal quarterly
Payments The first payment to begin on the first usual quarter day next after my decease and so to
Continue paying the same until the said one hundred pounds shall be fully paid (if the said
Sarah shall so long live) And I will that her receipt alone without her said husband shall be a Good
Discharge to my said Executor for such But in case she the said Sarah Milbank shall
happen to Depart this Life before she shall have wholly received the said sum of one hundred pounds as shall
on her Decease remain in my said Executors hands unto my Nephew Peter Butler his Ex[ecu]tors and
ad[ministra]tors And I Give unto my said Sister all my wearing Cloths and Linnen to be delivered to her as
soon as Conveniently may be after my Decease Also I Give and bequeath unto Captain Robert
Martin and Anne his wife a mourning ring Also I give and bequeath unto my said
Nephew Peter Butler the sum of Thirty pounds Also I give & bequeath unto Hannah
Barrington wife of John Barrington of Wivenhoe in the said County of Essex Marriner the sum
of five pounds Which Said Sums of Thirty pounds and five pounds I Will shall be paid by my
said Executors hereinafter named within twelve months of my Decease Also I Give unto
the Maid Servant that shall live with me at the time of my Decease the sum of Ten shillings &
sixpence Also I Give and bequeath unto Ann the wife of John Kirby of Colchester Esq[uire]
one Damask Table Cloth and one Dozen of Damask Napkins and I will that all other my
household Goods Plate and furniture shall be sold by my said Executor hereinafter named and
with the money arising thereby together with my ready moneys securities for money Bills Bonds
Notes and all other my personal Estate Whatsoever to pay all my just Debts
Legacies & Funeral Expences and from and after Payment of the same (if there shall be any
overplus I Give & bequeath the same unto my said Nephew Peter Butler his Ex[ecu]tors & A[admini]s[tra]tors and
I do nominate & appoint the said John Kirby Sole Ex[ecu]tor of this my will To whom I Give the Sum of
Ten pounds for his trouble in & about the execution of the same and hereby revoking all former
Wills by me made I do declare this to be my last Will and Testament in Witness whereof
I have to this my Will contained in one sheet of paper set my hand and seal this fourth Day
Of January in the year of our Lord one thousand Seven hundred and Forty nine
