485. Sarah BROWN of Wivenhoe, Spinster, 1774. D/ACW 33/4/4

In the Name of God Amen I Sarah Brown of Wivenhoe in the County of Essex
Spinster, being of sound Mind memory and understanding, do make this my last Will and Testament in manner
following, First I give and bequeath unto Thomas Best the Younger, Son of Captain Thomas Best of Colchester
in the said County, the Sum of twenty pounds, and a large Silver Spoon marked with the Letters (S: B:) Also
I give and bequeath unto Hannah Best Daughter of the aforesaid Captain Best, the like Sum of twenty pounds
and a large Silver Spoon, marked with the Letters (F: B:) Also I give and bequeath unto Isaac Denver of
Wivenhoe aforesaid Marriner and to Mary Decker Wife of the said Isaac Decker the Sum of ten pounds a
piece Also I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth Decker and Martha Decker Spinsters, and to Hannah the Wife of
John Newstip of Wivenhoe aforesaid Shipwright the three Daughters of the aforesaid Isaac Decker the
Sum of five pounds apiece Also I give and bequeath unto Mary Wright Spinster, Daughter of Thomas
Wright of East Donyland in the said County Fisherman five pounds Also I give unto Thamer Spence of
the City of London Widow, Daughter of Francis Brown deceased (who was Brother to my late Father William
Brown deceased) the Sum of twenty pounds And to the Children of the said Thamer Spence which shall be
living at the time of my death, the Sum of twenty pounds to be equally divided between them, if more than one,
but if there shall be but one such Child, of the body of the said Thamer Spence living at my death, then I give the
said last mentioned Legacy of twenty pounds to such only Child, Also I give and bequeath unto George Wyatt
of Wivenhoe aforesaid Shipwright, and to Mary Wyatt his Wife the Sum of ten Pounds apiece, And to George
Wyatt the Younger of the same place Shipwright, the like Sum of ten pounds Also I give and bequeath unto
the aforesaid Captain Thomas Best, and to James Ashwell of Colchester aforesaid Grocer, the Sum of ten
pounds apiece, Also I give and bequeath unto the aforesaid Elizabeth Decker, Martha Decker, and Hannah
Newslip, all my Wearing Apparel, which I will shall be equally divided between them, or such of them as shall be
living at my decease, By my Executors herein afterwards, And I will that all the aforesaid Legacies shall be paid
within six months next after my decease, And all the rest residue and remainder of my Goods Chattels and a
Personal Estate together with the Legacy or Legacies, of such of the aforesaid Legatee, or Legates, as may
happen to die, before his her or their Legacy or Legacies shall become due; to him, her or them respectively. (after
payment thereout of all my just Debts, Funeral Expences and the Charges of Proving and attending the
execution of this my Will) I will shall be equally divided amongst all and every of the aforesaid Legatees, or
such of them as shall be living at the end of six months next after my decease, And Lastly I do hereby a
nominate and appoint, the aforesaid Captain Thomas Best and James Ashwell Executors at this my will and
hereby revoking all former and other Will and Wills by me at any time heretofore made, I publish and declare
this to be my last; In witness whereof I the said Sarah Brown to this my last Will and Testament contained
in one Sheet of paper have set my hand and Seal this seventeenth day of December in the Year of our Lord
One thousand seven hundred and sixty seven.

Will and the Codicil hereunto annexed, and to the due performance thereof
before me

The Testatrix died at Wivenhoe the 26th of Jany last
This Willl (with a Codicil thereto annexed) of Sarah Brown late of the Parish of Wivenhoe in the County of Essex Spinster deceased was
proved on the First day of February in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Seventy four Before the Reverend Nathaniel
Forster clerk Surrogate by the oaths of Thomas Best and James Ashwell the Executors to whom Administration of all and singular the
Goods Chattels and credits of the said deceased was granted and committed on the seventh day of the same month of February they being
first sworn duly to administer

Whereas I Sarah Brown of Wivenhoe in the County of
Essex Spinster Have made my Will bearing date the Seventeenth day of
December in the year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred sixty
seven  Now I do hereby add this Codicill to my said Will which
I desire may be taken as part of the same,  Item I give and devise
unto Augustus Wyatt and Elizabeth Wyatt Son & Daughter of George
Wyatt of Wyvenhoe aforesaid Shipwright each the sum of Ten pounds
Item I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth Wyatt aforesd: to share with
Elizabeth Decker & Hannah Newslip in my Will before mentioned (Martha
Decker being deceased) all my wearing apparel which I Will shall be
equally divided between them or such of them as shall be living at the
time of my Decease by my Executors as they shall judge Prudent.  Item
I give and bequeath unto George Wyatt Junr: in my said Will mentioned all my
Household goods.  Item it is my Will also that the afores: Augustus
Wyatt & Elizabeth Wyatt do share Equally each with all the Legatees
in my Will aforesaid in the rest and residue of my Personal estate in
the manner therein mentioned.  In Witness thereof I have ti this
my Codicill to my said Will set my hand and seal this Thirty first day
of August in the Year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred
sixty nine
