553. William HARLOW of Wivenhoe, Mariner, 1824. D/ACW 41/1/26



In the Name of God, Amen, I William Harlow of the
Parish of Wivinhoe in the County of Essex Mariner, being in health
of body and of sound mind memory and understanding, praised be God
for the same, Do make this my last will and Testament, in
manner and form following – That is to say principally and first
of all, I give and recommend my soul into the hand of Almighty God
that gave it, And my body I recommend to the Earth to be buried
in decent Christian Burial – at the discretion of my Executors
And As touching worldly Estate wherewith it has pleased God
to bless me in this life- I Give desire and depose of in the
following manner and form_ First I give desire and bequeath
to my beloved wife Sarah, One third of all
in my possession and due to me at my decease for her sole use
and benefit-Also one third of the money that may or do arise
from the Sale of my Vessell called the Friends– Which said vessel
I direct My Executors (hereafter named) to sell immediately after
my decease, for the most money that Can be obtained- The remain
der or other Two third of my Personal property I give and bequeath
to Joseph Woodward my son in law and Mary his wife for their
sole use and benefit– And I do likewise give and bequeath to my
Said wife Sarah, for and during her Natural life all those freehold
premises yards Gardens and Appertenances thereto belonging – now
in my Occupation, (lately purchased of Mr John Mowel?)
Also All that Copyhold Tenement adjoining the aforesaid Freehold
lately Puchased of Mr. James Went (and now in the Occupation of
of Edward Bacon) for and during her natural life And I do likewise
Give and bequeath to Sarah my said wife for and During her
Natural life the use of all my household Goods and furniture
and after her decease- My will is that the said goods and furni
ture – shall be for the sole use and benefit of my Daughter
Mary the wife of Joseph Woodward (Mariner) – likewise at
the decease of Sarah my said wife I give and bequeath to my
Execators in trust for the benefit of my said daughter Mary
and her husband Joseph Woodward for and during their
lives- All that Freehold Estate above mentioned now in my Occupation

And Also all that Copyhold Estate adjoining the Same- and after
their Decease I give the said freehold and Copyhold Estates in Manner
following – I give and bequeath to Thomas the Eldest Son of my Nephew
Thomas Harlow- all that Freehold House yards Gardens and Apperten
ances thereto belonging if he shall arrive to the age of Twenty one
And I give and bequeath to William the son of Thomas Harlow my
nephew all that Copyhold Tenement before mentioned if he have
arrived at the age of Twenty one And I give and bequeath
to Joseph Woodward my son in law for his sole use and benefit
one maiety of that Good Fishing Smack or Vessel called and known
by the Name of the Rose in June
and I hereby Constitute and appoint Mr. William
Browne – of Wivenhoe Rope maker and Twine Spinner
And my Nephew Thomas Harlow of Wivenhoe Mariner Executors
And Sarah my wife Executrix to this any last will and
Testament Contained in one sheet of paper
hereby revoking and maken void all and every other will
in witness whereof I have here unto set my hand and
Seal this 2 Twontyninth Day of May 1813.

the best of his knowledge, & Belief
the amount of the Goods, Chattles,
& Cedits of the said deceased is
under the sum of three Hundred
Pounds

21st 1819
Proved on the 20th day of October in the Year of our
Lord 1824 before the said Richard Hoblyn Clrk
Surrog & by the Oath of Thos Harlow the Nephew
& The surviving Extor to whom Admn. &c was
Granted he being first sworn duly to administr
