412. Joseph GODWIN of Wivenhoe, Mariner, 1741. D/ACW 29/1/23

In the Name of God Amen  I Joseph Godwin of Wivenhoe in the County of Essex Marriner being of sound mind memory and
And understanding Do make this my last will and Testament and first I commend my soul into the hands of Almighty God
Hoping thro’ the merits of Jesus Christ to obtain eternal life and my wordly Estate I Dispose of in manner and form
following (that is to say) I Give and bequeath unto my Grandchildren Robert Godwin Martha Godwin and Richard Godwin
Children of my son Joseph Godwin the sum of Twenty Shillings apiece Also I Give and bequeath unto my son Robert
Godwin
the sum of Ten pounds Also I Give and bequeath unto my Grandchildren Joseph Goodwin and Robert Goodwin
Sons of my said son Robert the sum of Twenty Shillings apiece Also I Give and bequeath to my Daughter Martha the
now wife of William Woodham of Colchester half a Guinea  and no more in Consideration of my having advanced and paid
her a portion on her Intermarriage with her said husband which said several Legacys before mentioned I do hereby order
and Direct to be paid within twelve months next after my Decease Also I Give and Bequeath unto my Daughter
Elizabeth Godwin the sum of one hundred pounds Also I Give and bequeath unto my Daughter Susanna Godwin the sum of
one hundred and fifty pounds to be paid them at their respective ages of Twenty one years or Days of Marriage which
shall first happen but if either of them shall happen to Dye before they shall Receive their said Legacy then I Give the
Legacy to her so Dying to the survivor of them And whereas my said Daughter Elizabeth was lately admitted to
All my Copyhold Messuage in Wivenhoe aforesaid wherein I now Dwell to hold to her heirs & assigns after the Decease
of me and Susanna my wife and there being a Freehold messuage in Wivenhoe aforesaid now in the occupation of Thomas
Smith which I lately purchased of William King of Wivenhoe aforesaid Marriner and is settled to me and the said Susanna
my wife & her heirs and assigns for ever Now my mind and will is that in Consideration of my said daughter Elizabeth
being Intitled to the Remainder of my said Copyhold Estate settled as aforesaid I do therefor hereby Give Devise & bequeath
unto the said Susanna my wife all other the Rest Residue and Remainder of my Goods Chattells & Estate both Real and
personal whatsoever and wheresoever after the payment of my Just Debts the before mentioned Legacys and the Charge
of the probate of this my will and it is upon this Express condition and not otherwise (that is to say) that she my said wife
shall and do immediately after my Decease in case she shall me survive convey settle and assure all that my said freehold
messuage with the appurtenances in Wivenhoe aforesaid unto and upon her my said Daughter Susanna her heirs
and assigns forever immediately after the Decease of her my said wife free from all incumbrances whatsoever and
I do hereby nominate and appoint my friend Daniel Blyth of Elmstead in the said County of Essex Yeoman together with her
my said wife to be Executor and Executrix of this my last will and Testament and revoking all former wills
and Testaments by me at any time heretofore made I declare this to be my last In witness whereof I the said Joseph
Godwin have hereunto sett my hand and seal and have published and declared this to be my last will and Testament
The thirteenth Day of May in the year of our Lord one Thousand Seven Hundred and Forty
