356. Sarah ODY of Wivenhoe, Widow, 1720. D/ACW 25/126

In the name of God Amen I Sarah Ody of Wivenhoe in the County of Essex widdow being sick and weake in body but
of perfect Memory praised be God therefor doe make and ordain this my last will and testiment in manner and
form following. Imprimis I give and Bequeath my soul into the hands of almighty God who gave it and my body to
the Earth to be, buried by my Executors hereafter named to be buried in Wivenhoe grave yard by my deceased
daughter Ransom [and my desire is that a broad stone be laid over both our Graves] and as to the worldly estate
God hath Given me I Give and Bequeath as followeth:  Item I Give and Bequeath into the Poor [?] Congregation
in Colchester Called Bayliffe over whom My Welbeloved friend John Rootsey is Pastor the sume of Ten pounds of
Good and Lawfull Money of Great Briten to Be paid into the hands of Mr Thomas Pettly of Lexden & Mr Samuall
Stebin of Colchester within one month after my decease to be by them distributed into such as the Congregation
shall judge the most proper Objects of such Charity Item I Give and Bequeath unto my Kinswomen Sarah
Stevens Hanah Stevens and My Kinsman John Stevens Children of my Kinsman William Stevens of Wivenhoe
The sum of five pounds to be paid into the hands of their Grandmother Chandler Equaly to devid between
them share and share alik when they come of age or when she thinks Most proper. Item I Give and
Bequeath into Mr Joseph Rutter of Wivenhoe the sume of two pounds to be paid with the former fore
Named five pounds within one month after my decease. Item I Give an Bequeath unto Mrs Eliz Lock
wife of Capt Lock of Wivenhoe one Guinea to by her a Ring. Item I Give and Bequeath into Mrs Mary
King wife of Capt. King of Wivenhoe one Guinea to buy her a Ring Item I give and bequeath unto
Mrs Elizabeth Manning one Guinea to buy her a Ring Item I Give and Bequeath unto the widdow Beckwith
of Wivenhoe one pound. Item I give and Bequeath unto Mary Peneck wife of Peneck of Wivenhoe
the sum of two pounds with one pair of sheats. Item of Give and Bequeath unto Jemima Rootsey daughter
of John Rootsey of Colchester five Guineas, all which Legecies to be paid within one month after my
decease Item Give unto William Vincent of Wivenhoe one pr of Sheates and pillow cases Item
I Give and Be  queeth unto Richard Starlin of Wivenhoe one pr of Sheates. Item I give and
Bequeath unto Isaac Cage of Colchester one pr of sheates. Item my will is that all my Locks and
shelves whith my tack be Left as they now are to go with the house according to a bargain Made
by me, Item I Give and Bequeath unto My son In law Mr Josua Ransom all my freehold Land
in Greensteed in Colchester Lying in Greensted Medow Containing two acers more or less and all my
Copyhold Lands and heridtiments holden of the Manner of Grensted aforesaid by Coppy of Court Roll
for and during his natural life and after his decease to his son Joshua Ransom and his heirs for ever
upon Condition that he the said Joshua Ransom Emediatly after my decease upon the full notice
that shall be given him by my Executors do pay unto them or one of them so much money as shall
due to be paid by them for the dischargeing my debts Legacies and funerall charges and not otherwise
for my will is that if my son In law, Joshua Ransom refuse the same then I give and bequath unto
my Exceeciters, Mr William Buckingham of Nayland in the County of Essex Taner and Mr John Skingley
of Colchester Baymaker all those fore Mentioned Lands and Heriditaments both free and Coppy for to
be sould by them for the Inableing them the Better to pay my debts Legicies and funerall Charges
and my will is that all my goods not Given in my will and what shall not be by the Given before
Two witnesses be disposed of by Executors and I doe Give and Bequeath unto Mr William
Buckingham of Nayland one Guieny to Buy him a Ring on I give an Bequealh into Mr John Skingly of
Colchester one Guieny to buy him a Ring and doe Nominate and ordain the say Mr William
Buckingham of Nayland in the County of Suffolk Taner and Mr John Skingly of Colchester
Executors of this my Last will made this tenth day of November in the year
