348. Mary STOWERES of Wivenhoe, Wife of a Cardboard Maker, 1714.  D/ACW 24/142

In the name of God Amen the Foureteenth day of June Ano R Jacobe sidi & Secundo Ano o dm
1686 I Mary Stowers the now wife of Phillipp Stowers of Wivenhoe in the County of Essex Cardbord
maker being in reasonable health of body & of sound & pfect mind & memory (blessed be God) Yett
considering the certainty of death & the time uncertaine; And by vertue of the pewer & Authority to me
referred by Agreement betweene my said husband & my selfe; And in pursueance thereof doe hereby make
& ordayne my last will & testament in manner & forme following (vzt) ImprisI give & bequeath my
house into the handes of Almighty God & my body to the earth to be decently buried And as to that temporall
estate which God in his mercy hath lent me I dispose thereof as followeth (vizt) Item I give & bequeath
All & singuler my freehold & Coppyhold lande & tenmente with th appurtenaces containing together by estimacion
six & twenty acres & a halfe more or lesse situate lying & being in mount Bewere, Colne Wake Tey,magna &
Chappell als Pontesbright or some or one of them in the County of Essex And which said premisses Iately bought
of William Stilloman gent unto my two Children Mary Lock & James Lock & their heires as tennante in
comon & not as joynt Tengantes And my will & mind is that if it shall happen that eyther of my said two
Children to dye within age & without yssue of his or her body lawfully begotten or to be begotten that then
I give & bequeath the part of him or her soe dyeing to be equally devided betweene the survivors of them soe
dyeing & my sonn John Lock & their heires as tennants in Comon & not as joynt Tenants, And my will and
& mind further is that if both my said Children Mary Lock & James Lock shall happen to dye within age &
without yssue that then I give the said Lands & tenements with th’ appurtenances unto my sonn John Lock & his heirs
& Assignes for ever;  But my will & mind furthermore is that if all my said three Children shall happen
to dye within age & without heries of their bodyes lawfully begotten or to be begotten That then I give &
bequeath the said lands & tenement with th’ appntences to be equally devided betweene the Children of my brother
Francis King the Children of my brother William King & the Children of my sister Susan Parker which
Shal be alive att the time of my decease & their heirs as tennts in Common & not as joynt Tennants: But my
will is that my said sister Susan Parker shall enjoy her Childrens part of the sd prmisses dureing the terme
of her naturall life And where as my said husband Phillip Stowere is bound in bond to pay the summe of Twenty
pounds to such &pson or prsons as shall appoint in & by my last will or by other writing by me made attested by three
credible witnesses Now doe give & bequeath the said Twenty pounds unto my two Children Mary Lock & James
lock to be equally devided betweene them share & share alike, And alsoe what sume of mony as shal be due
unto me from my husband for the house I now live in which he is bound to pay to me att my decease I give
out of it unto my son John Lock the sume of five pounds of lawfull English mony: And alsoe I give unto
my loveing brother William King & my brother in law William Parker the sume of five pounds a peice out
of the said mony & I make & ordayne them the said William King & William Parker whole & sole executors
of thys my last will & testament And out of it further I give & bequeath unto my cosen Richard Humfry
the like sime of five pound whome doe make supvisor of this my will desiring him to be assisting to my executors
And the remainder thereof I give to be equally devided betweene my said two Children Mary Lock
James Lock share & share alike: soe revoking all former wills l I doe ordayne this to be my last will &
Testament;  Witness my hand & seale the day & yeare first above written.
