521. Joseph LIDWELL of Wivenhoe, Officer of Excise, 1798. PROB 11/1314/31

In the Name of God Amen
I Joseph Lidwell of Wivenhoe in the County of
Essex but late of Kelvedon in the said County officer of
Excise do make publish and declare this my last
Will a Testament he manner and form following
Viz First I commend my Soul unto God who gave it
and my Body to the Earth to be decently Buried and
as to the worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased
God to bless me I dispose of in the following manner
I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Martha
Lidwell all the Interest that is or shall become due of
all and all manner of Stock that now stands or hereafter
shall stand on the Transfer Books of the Bank of
England in my Name during her life and after her
decease I dispose one thousand pounds principal of the
said Stock now standing in the Transfer Books of the
said Bank of England of the three p[e]r Cent Consolidated
Annuities in the following manner

I give unto Elizabeth the wife of
Nightingale Two hundred pounds unto Mary
the wife of Joseph Ticehurst One hundred and
fifty pounds and two Lidiah Wife of John Hurst
One hundred and fifty pounds and to Martha Wife
of Robert Heath One hundred pounds unto
Sarah Wife of — Miller Two hundred pounds and
unto Barbary Lidwell Two hundred pounds my
six Sisters for their own use and benefit
notwithstanding their covertures and if it shall
so happen that any or either of my said Sisters
shall be dead at the time of my beloved Wife’s

decease my Will is that the Legacies here given
shall be divided equally among their or either of
their children part or share alike and all the
rest residue and remainder both Real and
personal of what nature and kind soever I
give and bequeath to my beloved Wife for
her own use and benefit and I here nominate
and appoint my said wife Executrix of this my
last Will and Testament utterly revoking all
former Wills by me heretofore made In witness
whereof I have hereunto set my Hand and Seal
this twelth day of February in the year of our
Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety four
Joseph Lidwell Signed Sealed published and
declared by the Testator Joseph Lidwell as and for
his last Will and Testament in the presence of us
who at his request in his presence and in the
presence of each other subscribed our Names as
Witnesses thereto Wm Browne, Susannah Browne,
Britannia Browne

This Will was proved at London the fifth day
of October in the year of our Lord one thousand
seven hundred and ninety eight before the
Right Honourable Sir William Wynne Knight
Doctor of Laws Master Keeper the Commissary of
the prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully
constituted by the oath of Martha Lidwell
Widow the Relict of the deceased and sole Executrix
named in the said Will to whom administration
of all and singular the Goods Chattels and Credits
of the said deceased was granted she having been
first sworn by Commission duly to administer.
