In the name of God amen
I Martha Bowton Widow of the parish of Wivenhoe in
County of Essex Farmer being weak in body and sound in
Mind and Memory make this my last Will and
Testament in manner and form following that is to say
I resign my Soul into the hands of Almighty God hoping
for the free pardon of all my Sins through the merits of
Jesus Christ and my body to the Ground to be decently
buried at the discretion of my Executor hereinafter named
I give and bequeath three children and to Hannah
Clark my Grand Child all real and personal Estate
whatsoever and wheresoever each a fourth part share
and shares alike the names as follows that is to say to
my son John Bowton a fourth part and to son Thomas Bowton
a fourth part and to my daughter Sarah Bowton a fourth
part and to my Grand Daughter Hannah Clark a like
fourth part equal with them the said Hannah Clark shall
have her fourth part when she comes to the age of
Twenty one years if said Hannah Clarke should die before
she comes to the age of Twenty One years her fourth part
shall be equal divided between my three children above
named I appoint my two sons John Bowton and Thomas
Bowton to be my Executors to this my last Will and
Testament made in the year the Reign of Sovereign Lord
King George the Third twenty seventh day of November
one thousand Seven Hundred and Eighty Eight
Martha Bowton (x) her mark Signe Sealed and
published and declared by the said Martha Bowton
Testator and for her last Will and Testament in presence
us and by us attested and in the presence us witnesses
William Munsey Thomas Simpson

This will was proved at London the Fifteenth day
of January in the year of our lord One Thousand Seven
hundred and Ninety before the Right Honorable Sir
William Wynne Knight Doctor of Laws Master Keeper
or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury
lawfully constituted by the Oaths of John Bowton and
Thomas the sons of the deceased the Executors
named in the said Will to whom Administration was
granted of all and singular the Goods Chattels and
Credits of the said deceased having been first sworn by
Commission duly to adminster.
